The PRT market divides in principle into two sectors, into the public and into the private sector. Potential PRT customers look for mobility concepts, which make either very flexible connections or areal developments possible.
With suburban trains the capacities are higher, the distances are larger and the number of stations smaller. Typically it is driven with higher speed and there are many areas where the tracks are parallel. Often it is intended to offer a connection to stations, bus terminals, Park+ Ride premises, valley stations of ski areas, sport or cultural centers or other leisure facilities.
For areal developments the primary idea is to connect several places of a large area. The capacities and distances are usually smaller, but there are tendentious more stations. Type-specific characteristics are lower speeds, fewer vehicles and single-railed round courses. The possible fields of deployment are medium-size and larger industrial companies, small and medium sized airports and harbor facilities, leisure, hotel and sport resorts, fairgrounds, etc., as well as shopping centers, town districts or municipalities who want to reduce the individual traffic.
